Operation Exercise in Futility has ended
Categories: Iraq
So, we finally wrapped up an operation to clear insurgents from a part of the city. This part of the city is the worst part. We literally went house to house in an area that is about 1 kilometer square and has a population of about 100,000, searched each and every house and business to see if they had anything they were not supposed to. They are allowed one AK-47 assault rifle with one magazine. No other weapons unless they are in the army or police. We nabbed a few bad guys in the operation.
Of course, this is the third time that this has been done in about two years. The previous operations obviously did not work since this is the third time we have done this. Still, I guess if we do this enough times they will figure it out and move on or move out.
The area that we were in is starting to heat up we understand. For the first six months that we were there it was very quiet. Nothing bad happening. But recently we have read about an increase in attacks in this area. So maybe what we are doing did work. They left Mosul and moved on to Kirkuk. Good times!
